In a passing glance, what do people notice about you? Your hair or your height, maybe. From closer up, it could be your eyes or even your scent. But these are a given. What about those smaller details that often go unnoticed? The ones that might take a second or third glance to appreciate, because this extra bit of effort is just for you? These are the signatures that we sign on to ourselves everyday.

Everywhere I go, the number three (more specifically 333) follows me. Literally. It’s clasped around my neck in gold. My lucky number so I’ll always have something positive with me. From across the street or in a crowded room, this would be almost impossible to point out. But in closer encounters, it’s something that might catch your eye, maybe even serve as a conversation starter.
It’s something that brings a small comfort to me. Something easy to grasp onto when I need something to do with my hands or serve as a quick reminder that things will work out for me whenever I catch a glance of it in my reflection.
This is the nature of a signature piece. It’s something that serves as a metaphysical representation of our inner self, whether it takes notice by others or not. We leave our mark on the world and the people inhabiting it in so many ways, but our small signature items can live in the memory of others, reminding them of our existence whenever they catch a glance of it in the wild.
While signature pieces can reflect our essence, staple pieces ebb and flow to fit our exact needs. One plain top can serve as the star of dozens of rotating outfits, adding more fun to styling and accessorizing while saving money and closet space.
You don’t have “no clothes,” you just have no outfits. Instead of spending money on countless pieces of clothing, most so similar they could be mistaken as the same, having a variety of simple tops and bottoms creates a foundation for a wardrobe. Being able to mix and match with color schemes, shape and textures, the stress of repeating outfits begins to fade.
Signature versus staples is consistency versus versatility, we need them both.
