Do Our Coffee Orders Really Say Anything About Us?

We’ve all seen those slideshow posts on nearly every social media site; “What your coffee order says about you!” No matter how little it really resonates with you, you’ve probably still scrolled, waiting for your order to show up. It’s the nature of curiosity.

And it’s not just coffee orders, we do this with everything. Zodiac signs, majors, favorite artists, everything across the Earth can tell people something about you. But do they really? The reason we are all so enthralled with these kinds of opinions stems from an obsession with how we are perceived by others.

No one knows someone as well as someone can know themselves. It’s near impossible to do otherwise. That being said, there’s no way to know exactly how someone views you, which can be a terrifying and all-consuming thought.

By being placed into a certain box, you begin to understand how you’re viewed. The issue with this is that it can warp our entire personalities into a facade. Once we unlock this new point of view, it influences your every action. You begin to analyze each move you make, checking if it fits this description you supposedly fall under.

Human beings are not supposed to have as deep of a reflection of ourselves as we do now. As soon as social media took off, everyone has been put under a microscope, judged by not only how we look, but how we look like we would act. Is that not the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever heard?

So no, your iced matcha does not say anything about you as a person except what your taste palette is. Everyone will tell you to stop caring what others think of you, but it really does become such a relief to live as your authentic self without the stress of how you’ll be seen. How others view us is none of our business.
