The idea of “rebranding” yourself has lost all meaning. The term used to refer simply refer to a marketing strategy aimed at creating a specific and positive public perception of oneself, typically for big-name companies and celebrities. Now, it’s the new in.
At surface level, this obsession with reinvention seems optimistic. People are reflecting on their lives in hopes of bettering themselves. But in reality, it is much more shallow. This desire stems from deep-seated insecurities and self-hatred.
Not only are people naturally insecure, but they are lazy at nature, and would rather appear one way than put in the work to actually become what they strive for.
Aesthetics and presentation have become more valued than authenticity. Want to become a reader. You can take the time to find what genres interest you and fill your free time with reading for pleasure, or you can fill your social media with images of book stacks. Why take the time to delve into a new hobby when you can create the image of doing so?
It has become so easy to fake your life for views and attention in order to be perceived a certain way. When you want to see drastic change in seconds, you take the “fake it ’til you make it” mindset to the extreme. But, suddenly, every aspect of yourself becomes fake.
Screw authenticity when your authentic self sucks, right?
